Refund policy

Returns, Refunds & Order Cancellation Policy

At SportZone, we want our returns, refunds and warranty processes to be clear, fair and straightforward.

This policy applies to purchases made through SportZone.co.nz and should be read together with our Terms of Service and any other applicable terms displayed at the time of purchase.

Nothing in this policy is intended to exclude, restrict or modify any rights or remedies that cannot lawfully be excluded under New Zealand law, including applicable rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 (CGA) and Fair Trading Act 1986 (FTA).

1. 30-Day Return Policy

SportZone offers a 30-day return period for eligible products, beginning on the date the order is delivered.

To request a return, you must contact us within 30 days of delivery.

Unless the return relates to rights or remedies available under applicable consumer law, an item must:

  • Be unused, unworn and in resalable condition.
  • Include its original packaging, accessories, manuals, components and tags.
  • Not have been assembled, installed, altered, modified or damaged after delivery.
  • Be accompanied by proof of purchase, such as your SportZone order confirmation or receipt.

Please contact us before returning any product.

Items returned without prior return authorisation may be delayed, refused or returned to the sender where permitted by law.

2. Change-of-Mind Returns

If you change your mind about a purchase, you may request a return within 30 days of delivery, provided the product satisfies the eligibility requirements above.

For approved change-of-mind returns:

  • A 15% restocking fee will be deducted from the refund.
  • Original delivery charges are non-refundable.
  • Return shipping is the customer's responsibility unless SportZone agrees otherwise in writing.
  • The product must be received and inspected before the refund is approved.
  • Products must be returned in a condition suitable for resale.

The restocking fee contributes towards reasonable handling, inspection, administration, repackaging and supplier processing costs associated with change-of-mind returns.

These conditions apply to change-of-mind returns and do not limit remedies available where a consumer has rights under applicable New Zealand consumer law.

3. Damaged, Faulty or Incorrect Products

Please inspect your order as soon as reasonably practicable after delivery.

If a product arrives damaged, appears faulty or defective, or you receive an incorrect product, please contact SportZone promptly.

To help us assess the issue efficiently, we may request:

  • Your order number.
  • A description of the problem.
  • Photographs showing the product, packaging and any visible damage.
  • A short video demonstrating the fault where the issue cannot reasonably be established from photographs.
  • Product serial numbers or other identifying information where applicable.

These requests are intended to help us assess and resolve claims efficiently and do not limit any statutory rights you may have.

Where appropriate, SportZone will provide return instructions and, where required, arrange or reimburse reasonable return shipping costs.

Where a product is confirmed to be faulty, damaged, defective or incorrectly supplied, SportZone will provide the remedy required by applicable New Zealand consumer law.

Depending on the circumstances and applicable legal requirements, this may include a repair, replacement or refund.

4. Consumer Guarantees Act

Products ordinarily purchased for personal, domestic or household use may carry guarantees under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993, including guarantees relating to acceptable quality, fitness for purpose, correspondence with description and other statutory requirements.

The appropriate remedy for a product failure depends on the nature and seriousness of the failure and the rights provided by applicable law.

Nothing in SportZone's warranty, returns process or this policy removes or reduces any CGA rights that apply to your purchase.

5. Warranty Claims

Many products sold by SportZone are also covered by a manufacturer's, supplier's or SportZone warranty.

The applicable warranty period may vary by product and will generally be stated on the product listing or associated warranty information.

For a warranty claim, we may reasonably request photographs, videos, serial numbers, troubleshooting information or other evidence necessary to identify and assess the reported issue.

Where appropriate, we may also ask you to perform reasonable troubleshooting steps before determining the appropriate resolution.

Any additional warranty offered by SportZone operates alongside, and does not replace, statutory consumer rights that apply under New Zealand law.

6. Return Authorisation

To request a return or warranty assessment, please contact:

Email: info@sportzone.co.nz

Our customer support team will review your request and provide the appropriate instructions and, where applicable, a return address.

Please do not send products to an address without first receiving return instructions. SportZone uses multiple fulfilment and supplier locations, and an unauthorised return may be sent to an incorrect facility.

7. Exchanges

SportZone does not generally process direct exchanges for change-of-mind purchases.

If you would prefer a different size, colour, model or product, the quickest option is generally to complete an approved return and place a separate order for the replacement product.

This does not affect any right to replacement that may arise in relation to faulty or non-compliant goods under applicable consumer law.

8. Product Availability & Inventory

SportZone makes reasonable efforts to maintain accurate stock information across our website.

However, we operate across multiple warehouses, distributors and suppliers. Inventory levels can change quickly and may occasionally be affected by:

  • Warehouse inventory discrepancies.
  • Supplier stock changes.
  • Inventory synchronisation delays.
  • Multiple customers purchasing remaining stock simultaneously.
  • Products being discontinued or withdrawn.
  • Technical or system errors.
  • Incorrect stock information supplied to us by a third party.

Accordingly, displaying a product as available does not constitute an unconditional guarantee that inventory will remain available until the order has successfully completed fulfilment processing.

9. Order Cancellation by SportZone

SportZone reserves the right to cancel an order, or an affected part of an order, before fulfilment where we cannot reasonably complete the transaction.

Circumstances may include, without limitation:

  • A product becoming unavailable or being confirmed out of stock.
  • A warehouse, distributor or supplier being unable to fulfil the product.
  • An inventory synchronisation or stock-level error.
  • A product being discontinued or withdrawn from sale.
  • An obvious pricing, product description, promotional, listing or technical error.
  • Incorrect information being provided to SportZone by a supplier or fulfilment partner.
  • Delivery to the supplied address being unavailable or impracticable.
  • Payment not being successfully completed.
  • A transaction requiring additional security or identity verification.
  • Reasonable fraud, payment-security or transaction-risk concerns.
  • Circumstances outside SportZone's reasonable control that prevent fulfilment.

Where reasonably practicable, we may offer an alternative product. Customers are not required to accept an alternative.

Where we cannot reasonably fulfil the affected product, SportZone may cancel that product or order and provide the applicable refund.

Nothing in this section permits SportZone to cancel an order in circumstances where doing so would breach rights that cannot lawfully be excluded or restricted.

10. Order Confirmations & Automated Communications

SportZone uses automated systems to provide order confirmations, payment notifications, fulfilment updates and tracking information.

An automated order confirmation or processing notification acknowledges that an order has been received by our systems. It does not override a genuine inventory, supplier, pricing, payment, security or technical issue subsequently identified during processing or fulfilment.

Occasionally, automated systems may display generic cancellation descriptions or status messages. If an automated message conflicts with information subsequently provided by SportZone Customer Care, please contact us so we can confirm the reason and status of your order.

11. Pricing & Listing Errors

SportZone takes reasonable care to ensure product descriptions, specifications, promotions and prices are accurate.

Occasionally, genuine errors may occur.

Where an obvious pricing, promotional, product-information or technical error is identified before fulfilment, SportZone may contact the customer to explain the issue and, where appropriate, offer the opportunity to proceed on corrected terms.

Where the transaction cannot reasonably proceed, SportZone may cancel the affected item and refund any amount captured for that item, subject always to applicable New Zealand law.

12. Refunds for Orders Cancelled Before Fulfilment

If SportZone cancels an order before fulfilment and payment has already been captured, we will initiate a refund for the affected amount to the original payment method.

SportZone does not retain payment for products we cancel because we are unable to fulfil them.

Once a refund has been initiated, banks, card issuers and payment providers may require additional processing time before the funds appear in the customer's account.

Pending Card Authorisations

In some cases, a customer's banking app may show a transaction as pending even though the order has been cancelled.

A pending card authorisation is not necessarily a completed payment to SportZone.

Where payment has not been captured, the customer's bank, card issuer or payment provider determines when the pending authorisation is released.

SportZone cannot control the processing timeframe of an independent bank or card issuer.

13. Refund Process for Returned Products

Once an authorised returned product has been received and inspected, we will notify you of the outcome.

Where a refund is approved:

  • The refund will ordinarily be issued to the original payment method.
  • SportZone will generally initiate approved refunds within 10 business days.
  • Your bank, credit card provider or payment processor may require additional time to credit the funds to your account.

If more than 15 business days have passed since SportZone confirmed that your refund was processed and you have not received it, please contact:

info@sportzone.co.nz

14. Non-Returnable Products

For change-of-mind returns, the following products may not be eligible for return:

  • Used products.
  • Assembled or installed products.
  • Products missing original packaging, accessories or components.
  • Personal-care, hygiene or health-related products where packaging or hygiene seals have been opened.
  • Clearance or final-sale products where identified as such.
  • Special-order or customised products.
  • Products damaged through misuse, neglect, accident, improper installation, unauthorised modification or abnormal use.
  • Products showing ordinary wear and tear.

These exclusions apply to change-of-mind returns and do not override statutory rights or remedies that may apply to faulty, defective, misdescribed or otherwise non-compliant products.

15. Shipping Damage

Where a product appears to have been damaged during transportation, please contact us as soon as reasonably practicable after discovering the damage.

Please retain the product and its packaging while we assess the claim, as photographs of the packaging may assist us in resolving the matter with the carrier or fulfilment provider.

Do not dispose of a damaged product unless SportZone confirms that you may do so.

16. Refund Method

Unless otherwise required by law or agreed by SportZone, refunds are returned to the original payment method used for the transaction.

This helps protect customers against payment fraud and ensures refunds are properly reconciled against the original transaction.

17. New Zealand Consumer Law

SportZone is committed to complying with applicable New Zealand consumer legislation.

Nothing in this Returns, Refunds & Order Cancellation Policy is intended to exclude, restrict or modify any guarantee, right or remedy that cannot legally be excluded, restricted or modified.

Where there is any inconsistency between this policy and a mandatory requirement of applicable New Zealand law, the applicable legal requirement will prevail.
